Description
(1816 - 1870) Union major general, ‘The Rock of Chickamauga', Thomas led at Chickamauga, Shiloh, Atlanta and Franklin. A carte de visite photograph, 2.5 x 4 in. sepia, featuring a chest-up view of Thomas in uniform, with his signature and rank in the plate below the portrait. The verso shows the backstamp of photographers Chambers & Dunn of Erie, Pennsylvania. Shows a very small tear and a few spots of soiling to the photo print, with slight bumps to the edges, otherwise in very good overall condition. Sold with a period frontispiece engraving of Thomas.
