Description
Manuscript D.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 25, 1780 – Feb. 23, 1881, providing the salaries for men in the 2nd Battalion, 71st Regiment of the British Army, officially known as the 71st Regiment of Foot. It includes the accounting for: ‘…40 Sergeants…40 Corporals…22 Drummer & Pipers…500 Privates, includ’g 40 Cons[cripted] Men…’ The list continues at bottom: ‘…61 days subsistence to 1 Sergeant, 5 Corporals, 3 Drummers & 107 Privates, Prisoners, with the Rebels…’. Signed by Capt. of the 71st, Alexander Sutherland. Very good condition. Fraser’s Highlanders was a British regiment raised in Scotland in 1775 for service in the American Revolutionary War. Between 1779-1781, the regiment was actively engaged in the Battle of Brier Creek, in defeating the American-French siege of Savannah, leading the city’s surrenderer during Siege of Charleston, and securing a major British victory in the Battle of Camden in 1780.
