Description
(1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. Fine partly-printed D.S. as President, 1p. folio, Washington, May 1, 1908, a military appointment of Charles F. Kieffer as ‘…Major in the Medical Corps…’. Countersigned by ROBERT SHAW OLIVER as Acting Secretary of War. Dr. Charles F. Kieffer (1969-1908) was appointed lieutenant and assistant surgeon in 1891, then promoted to captain in 1896. From Sept. 1899 to June 30, 1901 Kieffer was major and surgeon in the 48th Regiment U.S. Volunteer Infantry. Handsomely matted in cream with a portrait of Roosevelt laughing and set into a carved black frame with gilt accents measuring 33.5 x 28 in. Very good to fine condition, not examined out of frame.
