Description
(1825 – 1889) American physiologist and vivisection activist who became the first full-time professor of physiology in the United States. During the Civil War he served as medical inspector in the 6th Army Corps and was later transferred to the Army of the Potomac where he was made chief medical inspector of field hospitals. Dalton also implemented the first ambulance system in New York and promoted vivisection of animals in pursuit of medical education. A.L.S. as 'Medical Director of Transportation', 1p. 8vo., New York, Feb. 27, 1864, a letter of recommendation for his '...assistant in the reception and transportation of sick and wounded soldiers...'
