Byron Kurt Lichtenberg (born 1948) is an American biomedical engineer and former NASA payload specialist who flew aboard STS-9 in 1983, the inaugural flight of Spacelab, and STS-45 in 1992, the first mission of the ATLAS-1 atmospheric laboratory. During his two Shuttle missions, he conducted experiments in life sciences, materials science, and atmospheric research. Prior to his spaceflight career, Lichtenberg served as a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon and later held leadership positions in biomedical research and the aerospace industry.
