A. Scott Crossfield autographed First Day of Issue “Robert Goddard - Father of the Space Age” cover, postmarked Roswell, New Mexico, October 5, 1964. Crossfield has boldly signed the cover in blue ink, adding the inscription, “X-15.”

Albert Scott Crossfield (1921-2006) was one of America’s most accomplished test pilots and aerospace pioneers. Flying for NACA, he became the first person to exceed Mach 2 in the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket and later was selected as the chief test pilot for the North American X-15 program. His work on high-speed experimental aircraft played a pivotal role in advancing supersonic flight and laid essential groundwork for the nation’s space program.
