Charles “Pete” Conrad (1930-1999) was one of NASA’s most accomplished astronauts and the third person to walk on the Moon as commander of Apollo 12 in November 1969. Earlier, he established a new space endurance record during Gemini 5 and later commanded the Skylab 2 mission, the first crewed mission to America’s first space station. Conrad and his crew famously rescued the damaged Skylab station through a series of innovative in-orbit repairs, ensuring the success of the program and securing his place among the most skilled astronauts of the Space Age.
