Daniel C. Brandenstein autographed flight-flown cover carried aboard an Attack Squadron 128 training flight. The cover is completed in manuscript, documenting carriage from NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, on March 14, 1973, aboard A-6E aircraft no. 822. Additional flight details record an altitude of sea level to 23,000 feet, Mach .83, the purpose as an attack training mission, and the release of 12 practice bombs. Brandenstein has signed the certification in blue ink as LCDR, USN.

Daniel C. Brandenstein (b. 1943) is a retired U.S. Navy captain and NASA astronaut. Before joining NASA, he served as a naval aviator flying the A-6 Intruder and completed combat missions during the Vietnam War. Selected as a NASA astronaut in 1978, he flew four Space Shuttle missions, commanding STS-8, STS-51-G, and STS-32, and logged more than 789 hours in space. After his flight career, he held senior management positions within NASA’s Astronaut Office and Flight Crew Operations.
