The 2nd New York Volunteer Cavalry quarterly return of deceased soldiers for the quarter ending June 30, 1865. This large printed military record, measuring approximately 30 x 12” when fully opened, lists members of the regiment who died during the reporting period, recording their names, rank, dates and causes of death, pay information, burial details, and official remarks. Entries include deaths resulting from disease and wounds sustained during the final months of the Civil War, as well as postwar service-related fatalities. Notations reference burials at Waldo Ford and the transportation of remains to the Florida Coast and North American Cemetery. Retained copy with period manuscript annotations to the reverse identifying the regiment and reporting period.

Folded as issued with expected age toning, scattered foxing, light handling wear, and a few short separations and edge tears at intersecting fold lines.

Organized in late 1861, the 2nd New York Volunteer Cavalry served with distinction throughout the Civil War, participating in numerous major campaigns in the Eastern Theater. The regiment saw extensive action during the Peninsula Campaign, Antietam, Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, and the Appomattox Campaign before mustering out in 1865. Official quarterly returns such as this served as important administrative records documenting the service and sacrifice of the regiment’s fallen soldiers during the closing months of the war.
