  • Description: A Correct Chart of the North Sea, with the Adjacent coasts of Britain, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, the Islands of Orkney and Shetland, the entrance to the Sound and the Baltic Sea'. This scarce map was published to illustrate the Battle of Dogger Bank, an inconclusive naval engagement that took place on 5 August 1781 during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, which was contemporaneous with the American Revolutionary War, in the North Sea. It was a fierce and bloody encounter between a British squadron led by Vice Admiral Sir Hyde Parker and a Dutch squadron commanded by Vice Admiral Johan Zoutman, both escorting convoys.
