The Tour started in Nancy, with much of the first three stages traversing Belgium. Jacques Anquetil secured his third Tour victory, further cementing his dominance with his remarkable time-trial skills. Belgian Jef Planckaert finished second, and Raymond Poulidor claimed third. Rudi Altig won the points classification, while Spaniard Federico Bahamontes won the mountains classification. This Tour is notable for reintroducing commercial teams and for Anquetil's continued mastery, solidifying his place as a cycling legend. The route of the Tour de l'Avenir is also marked on the map. .
