Description: Wo Österreichs Reben wachsen [Where Austria’s vines grow]. An attractive mid-century pictorial map celebrating Austria’s principal wine-growing regions, produced during the post-war promotion of Austrian viticulture. The map combines a clear regional framework with lively vignettes showing harvest scenes, local costume, wine production, and characteristic landscapes. The focus is on Lower Austria (Niederösterreich), the historic core of Austrian wine production, with the Danube corridor shown from the Wachau eastwards through the Kremstal, Kamptal, and Traisental, and into the Vienna Basin. Vineyard districts around Krems, Dürnstein, and Langenlois are clearly identified, while the Weinviertel extends north and east towards the Czech and Slovak borders. Vienna (Wien) is prominently included as a wine-producing city, with vineyards on the slopes of the Wienerwald. To the south, Styria (Steiermark) appears with its wine districts around Graz and the South Styrian hills, while Burgenland is shown to the east, centred on the Neusiedlersee. Regional coats of arms and colour-coded vineyard densities reinforce the map’s promotional and decorative character, making it a lively document of Austrian wine culture in the 1950s. .
