Through the medium of Ankara collage painting, the artist skillfully captures the richness of African culture and the beauty of embracing one's natural self. At the heart of this artwork is an African woman, portrayed with a sense of pride and confidence. What sets her apart is her natural hair, which flows freely, symbolizing the unique and beautiful expression of her individuality. The untamed, unaltered beauty of her hair serves as a potent symbol of authenticity and self-acceptance. The Ankara fabrics, with their diverse colors and patterns, contribute to the cultural tapestry that surrounds the central figure. These fabrics represent the various aspects of African heritage and traditions, adding depth and complexity to the composition. The fusion of the vibrant textiles with the natural beauty of the woman creates a powerful visual narrative. "African Beauty" is not only a stunning visual creation but also a statement of the beauty that lies in embracing one's true self and cultural heritage. Agwunwa Theophilus invites viewers to appreciate the unique charm of African identity and the strength that comes from accepting and celebrating one's natural attributes. This artwork serves as a tribute to the rich tapestry of African beauty and the unapologetic expression of individuality. Painting Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Agwunwa Theophilus Chinonso was born in 1990, He hails from Ejeme Aniorgor, Aniocha South, Delta State, Nigeria. He graduated with a distinction from Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi in Edo State where he studied Arts and Industrial Design (Painting). His works are an exploration of numerous waste materials most especially fabric in the execution of his paintings. He doesn?t simply conceptualize daily activities and human state of mind in his paintings, he transforms waste materials into wealth (beautiful works of art). At his tender age, he discovered his gift as an artist, both visual and performing art drawing almost everything he sees around his environment and practicing musical instruments as well. Artist Statement As a Nigerian-based artist, I see my art as a form of up-cycling because I transform Ankara fabrics (African prints) both old and new into beautiful paintings that portray daily activities, love, and a human state of mind. The use of colorful Ankara materials with lovely motifs and patterns characterizes my unique style. Ankara fabric was chosen as my primary medium of expression because of the lovely patterns on it and how it captures the essence of my work. The use of vibrant colors of fabrics in my painting depicts hope as it tends to encourage the viewers to stay focused and that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
