Ray Johnson (1927?1995) was an American collagist and conceptual artist, best known as the founder of the New York Correspondence School and the pioneering "mail art" movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Drawing on collage, pop imagery, and performance, his inventive, enigmatic works helped lay the groundwork for Neo-Dada, Pop Art, and intermedia practices.
