19th Century Paint Decorated Child's Blanket Chest

Description

A wonderful mid-19th century paint decorated softwood child's blanket box in the Pennsylvania German tradition, of dovetailed construction, retaining its original red painted surface with finely executed polychrome floral decoration to the front and lid, the facade embellished with two rectangular reserve panels featuring tulips, bellflowers, stylized blossoms, and heart motifs; 15⅝ in. high, 28⅞ in. wide, 16¾ in. deep. Age-appropriate wear to the surface and paint; replaced hinges; losses to the handles.
