Description
Polychromed wooden folk art plaque honors Sybil Ludington, a celebrated figure of the American Revolutionary War often referred to as the female Paul Revere. The piece depicts her on horseback and includes an inscription detailing her name. Her historic feat: on the night of April 26, 1777, at age 16, she rode 40 miles through a rainstorm across Putnam County, New York, to warn colonial militia of the British attack on the supply depot in Danbury, Connecticut—a journey more than twice the distance covered by Paul Revere. The plaque measures approximately 17 1/4 in. H x 11 3/4 in. W x 1 in. D and is in good condition, displaying natural wear and patina consistent with its age.
