An impressive French Louis XV style ormolu-mounted walnut bureau plat, or partners desk, beautifully crafted with richly figured walnut veneers enhanced by intricate floral marquetry throughout, the rectangular top fitted with a brown gilt-tooled leather writing surface surrounded by an elaborate scrolling marquetry border and protected at each corner by ornate bronze mounts, the serpentine case fitted with five drawers to the front and five false drawers to the reverse, the cast bronze mounts including striking Egyptian Revival style winged female caryatid figures at each corner, raised on graceful cabriole legs joined by shaped stretchers and ending in paw feet; approximately 33 in. high, 75 in. wide, 42 in. deep.
