This rare 16th-century violin, dated 1573 and bearing the internal maker's mark of the pioneering Brescian master Gasparo da Salò (c. 1540–1609), is a significant example of early violin craftsmanship known for its dark, rich, and powerful tone. The violin measures approximately 23 in. in total height with a 14 in. body, and is accompanied by an internal note referencing possible provenance via J.W. Jenkins. It is housed in a period case measuring approximately 31 in H x 8 3/8 in. W x 3 1/4 in. D. Condition notes include significant age-related wear and loss throughout the instrument and case; the violin currently lacks some strings, features a loose reverse section held by string, and has damage to the tuners bridge and violin bow (though the absent piece is included).
