Description
This compelling oil painting by the renowned artist Charles Kermit Ewing who was the leader of the "Knoxville Seven" and founder of the University of Tennessee's art department. The painting displays a dynamic, swirling vortex of deep blues, charcoal grays, and whites, accented by a luminous sliver of pale yellow. The composition is grounded in an earthy lower palette of ochre, rust reds, burnt sienna, and deep browns, all rendered with heavy impasto brushwork. Signed "C. Kermit Ewing" and dated 1962, the piece is housed in a wood frame and measures approximately 27 in. H x 23 in. W. It is in good condition, with only light wear to the frame.
