This MAGNIFICENT 100% cotton bear paw quilt is all machine pieced, hand appliqued, and precisely machine quilted, with a wonderful central floral medallion, surrounded by bear paw blocks and borders, with sawtooth wheel / "pickle dish" / double compass blocks layered in the background, with floral applique in the borders. It was made in 2001 by Ellen Schargel Rosenbach, an acclaimed quilt artist whose work has captivated audiences with its technical brilliance, historical depth, and striking originality. Her intricate one-of-a-kind designs are celebrated for their meticulous craftmanship, innovative construction, and expressive use of color and pattern. The quilt is signed and dated "Ellen Rosenbach, North Palm Beach, Florida, October 23, 2001" on the reverse.
High quality fabrics are used throughout, including some reproduction William Morris fabrics. Rosenbach is known for her attention to the smallest detail. Notice the pieced binding, and how the corners all change to yellow in the exact corner position.
It measures 86" X 86" and is in excellent condition, with no spots, wear, holes, or fade.
There is precise machine quilting throughout, in elaborate grid, straight line, cable, and feathered designs.
The back is a blue-on-white print, and the batting is thin. The quilt feels like, and is constructed like, a vintage quilt. This is not an import.
