Biography: Bevlyn Simson (American) earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Arts from The Ohio State University and studied art extensively throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States. Although she worked in printmaking early in her career, including silkscreen, woodblock, and lithography, she became known for her neo-geometrical, hard-edge abstract paintings inspired by artists such as Malevich and Mondrian. Her work focuses on the formal relationships of shape and color and often incorporates multi-panel and shaped canvases to encourage viewer engagement. Beyond her artistic practice, Simson was a significant supporter of the arts, establishing endowment funds and permanent collections at The Ohio State University, the Columbus Museum of Art, and Temple Israel in Columbus, Ohio. She also supported exhibitions and cultural organizations, including the Wexner Center for the Arts and the Columbus Symphony. Her philosophy viewed art as a personal expression of freedom and a means of creating something new that enriches life.
