The Environs of Holmfirth, Huddersfield (on the South) and Peniston // A Plan of Leeds'. A beautiful and highly detailed topographical map of part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. Wapentakes are delineated in outline colour. Churches and Gentleman's Seats are indicated pictorially. Turnpike roads are outlined in bold. Watermills are shown as circles surrounded by dots, lead mines by triangles, iron mines by crosses, coal pits and allum works with circles. Inset is a detailed town plan of Leeds with decorative cartouche. . Surveyed 1767-1770 by John Ainslie, engraved by Thomas Jefferys 1771 and published post humously by Jefferys 1772. Published 1772 (dated). Antique folio topographical map sheet with original outline colour. Size 62 x 60 cm | 24.0 x 23.5 inches. Condition: Good; suitable for framing.
