A German military intelligence map produced during the planning for Operation Seelöwe (Sea Lion), the intended Nazi invasion of England, issued strictly for Official Use Only and detailing London's transport infrastructure. Compiled in the weeks following the fall of France, it was created specifically for invasion and occupation planning. On 2 July 1940 the Wehrmacht High Command instructed the services to begin preliminary invasion planning; this sheet, dated August 1940, is a direct product of that order. Prepared by IV. Mil.-Geo., the Army’s principal cartographic intelligence unit, it is a significant surviving artefact of German operational planning for London in 1940 and remains scarce outside institutional collections. .
