Issued as a folding map by Waterlow & Sons of London and Dunstable, it presents the city as a dense historical pageant, centred on the Cathedral and tracing streets, gates, churches, hospitals, abbeys and civic landmarks from Roman Durovernum through Augustine, Becket, Chaucer’s pilgrims and the medieval city walls. Clark fills the plan with lively captions, figures and vignettes, including the West Gate, Dane John Gardens, St Augustine’s Abbey, St Dunstan’s, the Norman Castle and a large Canterbury Pilgrims scene.
