This is a gorgeous set that consists of two Xenophora shells. Xenophora are well-known gastropods, for some species agglutinate dead seashells while growing. It is believed that this behaviour enables them to grow larger while saving shell material.
The fossil is Xenophora agglutinans. It shows traces of attachment of shells that were lost during fossilization.
The recent shell is Xenophora pallidula. It is a truly amazing, aesthetic specimen with beautiful shells attached. This is completely natural. It is not a man-made composition. Two loose shells have been glued to their original position.
