===================================
a famous Renaissance collection of historical anecdotes and moral examples, authored by the Genoese statesman and scholar Battista Fregoso (also known as Campofregoso).
Translated to English, the title means: "Examples, that is, of memorable sayings and deeds, drawn from ancient and modern historians of proven reliability."
The work is divided into nine books.
It acts as a Renaissance "book of examples," compiling historical vignettes, moral lessons, and biographical anecdotes from both classical antiquity and Fregoso's contemporary history.
It was designed to serve as a resource for orators, statesmen, and writers, providing them with a rich catalog of historical precedents to illustrate virtues (like courage and justice) and vices (like tyranny and betrayal).
The original Italian manuscript (De dictis et factis memorabilibus) was later translated into Latin by the humanist Camillo Gilino.
It is best known for its beautifully printed Latin edition published in Basel by Heinrich Petri in 1567
