A 16" 33 1/3 rpm RCA disc put out by the WPA during the Great Depression. This single sided disc is program No. 7 from the 1937 series features the, "New York State Symphonic Band". In VG condition with the original sleeve. RCA WPA records are historical audio transcriptions manufactured or recorded using technology from the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the New Deal era (1935–1943). During the Great Depression and early 1940s, the WPA’s specialized branches such as the Federal Music, Writers', and Theater projects) produced radio programs to showcase American culture and document oral histories. These programs were captured on heavy, 16-inch or 18-inch "orthacoustic" transcription discs rather than commercial vinyl. RCA was the primary industrial developer of this specialized recording technology. These records contain unique radio broadcasts, orchestral music, folk songs, local histories, and educational programming created to boost morale and keep creative professionals employed.
