Duke of Gloucester pattern dinner plates produced by Vista Alegre, Portugal, for Mottahedeh, faithfully reproducing one of the most celebrated English dinner services of the late 18th century.

The original service was created circa 1770 for the Duke of Gloucester, brother of King George III, and is represented in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg.

Richly decorated with abundant fruits, leaves, flowers, butterflies, and delicate 22-karat gold feathering, the pattern exemplifies the refined naturalistic ornament popular during the Georgian period and remains one of Mottahedeh's most iconic designs.

Each plate bears the Vista Alegre and Mottahedeh marks to the underside, with additional impressed factory and design numbers.

Condition:
Very Good, with intentional crackled glaze and minor wear consistent with age. There is one small dark mark near one of the butterflies on the rim.
