A 1961 Canadian 1-cent bronze coin struck without a restraining collar, a mint error known as a broadstrike. The absence of the collar during the striking process allowed the planchet to expand beyond the standard diameter, resulting in an oversized appearance with flared, thin edges. The obverse depicts the laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse features the Kruger-Gray maple leaf design, the date 1961, and the inscriptions 1 CENT and CANADA. The coin is housed in a vintage 2x2 cardboard and plastic film flip with handwritten notations in blue ink. The front of the flip is inscribed 1 cent - 1961 - CANADA OVERSIZED STRUCK WITHOUT RETRAINING COLLAR, notably misspelling the word restraining. The reverse of the flip features a handwritten provenance note: FROM MR. N. SCOTT TRADED 2 NEWF. LARGE CENTS BEFORE 1907. Very fine circulated condition. The coin displays an even brown patina with light contact marks and wear consistent with its grade. The error is clearly visible and well-preserved. The cardboard flip shows yellowing and edge wear consistent with age.
