This 1957 CA one-cent coin is a broadstrike mint error, struck in bronze. The error occurred when the coin was struck without a retaining collar, causing the metal to expand beyond the standard diameter and resulting in a wide, slightly off-center rim. The obverse features the laureate bust of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse displays the twin maple leaf design by G.E. Kruger Gray. The coin is housed in a vintage 2x2 cardboard and staple flip with contemporary handwritten notations in blue ink identifying the oversized and off-center strike. The reverse of the flip provides collector provenance to J.E. Fondi of Haverhill, MA, and includes a trade list for various US Lincoln cents dated 1922 through 1931.

Composition: 98% copper, 0.5% tin, 1.5% zinc. The coin exhibits a uniform brown circulated tone with moderate wear on the high points of the portrait and maple leaf veins, consistent with a fine grade. No major surface abrasions or environmental damage are present. The vintage flip shows expected age-toning and oxidation around the staples.
