1893 Columbian Exposition commemorative half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. This issue represents the first commemorative coin type authorized by the United States Congress, produced for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The design features a portrait of Christopher Columbus on the obverse and the sailing ship Santa Maria above two hemispheres on the reverse. The coin features a reeded edge.

Weight: 0.400 ozt. Circulated condition with moderate wear on the high points of the obverse portrait and the ship's sails on the reverse. The coin exhibits a silver-gray color with areas of darker toning in the recessed fields. Scattered surface marks, hairline scratches, and contact nicks are visible throughout. No original mint luster remains.
