Description
Bavaria, Germany. A set of six deep porcelain plates. Blue Onion pattern decoration. Mid-20th century. Perfect condition. Marked. Dimensions: D 24.0 cm x H 4.0 cm. The Meissen Blue Onion pattern, known as "Zwiebelmuster" in German, was introduced in 1739 by the Meissen porcelain manufactory. Inspired by Asian porcelain, particularly Chinese blue-and-white designs, the pattern features stylized flowers and fruitsâa‚¬a€despite its name, it does not actually depict onions. This classic blue pattern on white porcelain has become an icon of European porcelain artistry and remains one of Meissen's most popular and recognizable designs.
