The elegant suspension towers of the Golden Gate Bridge dominate the composition, their distinctive International Orange finish contrasting beautifully against the soft blue sky and shimmering waters of San Francisco Bay. Bowler employs a sensitive understanding of perspective, allowing the bridge's sweeping cables to draw the viewer naturally across the painting while maintaining convincing depth throughout.
In the foreground, rugged shoreline rocks emerge from the gently moving water, highlighted with subtle touches of impasto to capture reflected light and the movement of the incoming tide. Condition Report
Presented in good vintage condition consistent with its circa 1980 age.
The original oil-painted surface is well preserved, retaining bright colours, stable paint layers and no obvious evidence of restoration or overpainting under normal inspection.
The original gilt wooden frame remains structurally sound and displays light age-related wear including minor rubbing, surface scuffs and a small overpainted chip to the upper left corner, entirely consistent with careful handling over time.
The reverse retains its original backing together with the original printed Jean Bowler, Orinda, California studio label. A hanging wire is not presently fitted and can easily be added prior to wall display.
Overall, the painting presents extremely well and is ready for display.
