A finely hand-crafted late Georgian era early 19th-century brooch set with a natural carnelian agate, mounted in tested 9ct gold. The stone displays a richly layered palette ranging from deep burnt orange and amber through to oxblood red, with areas of subtle translucency at the edges. Natural internal clouding, soft banding, and tonal zoning create a dynamic, almost glowing effect in changing light — a defining characteristic of high-quality antique chalcedony.

Composition & Technique
The brooch is of bold, geometric square form. The carnelian is cut as a softly domed square cabochon, finely polished to reveal the stone’s natural depth and internal structure, and secured within a hand-fabricated claw setting. The mount is deliberately minimal, allowing the stone to take visual precedence — a design approach reflecting the Scottish agate working tradition. Presented in good antique condition with light wear consistent with age. One claw is missing; however, the stone remains secure within the mount.
