Description
19x10x9 This footstool is designed in the style of a nineteenth-century Victorian gout stool, featuring a central cylinder constructed from a large wooden rolling pin. The frame is made of turned hardwood, likely maple or birch, with a warm medium-brown fruitwood-toned stain and a lustrous finish. It is supported by four splayed, baluster-turned legs terminating in ball feet, which are mortised into the underside of the rolling pin barrel. The stool is upholstered in a hand-worked floral needlepoint featuring bouquets in shades of rose, yellow, and blue against a dark forest green ground. The upholstery is secured along the underside with a decorative binding strip and tacks. No maker marks or signatures are visible. A modern paper auction tag from Atlee Raber Auctions is attached to one leg.
