Impressive wooden shield from the NGOMBE people of D.R. Congo. Large piece, total lenght: 142 cm!
The 120,000 NGOMBE live scattered along the banks of the Lualaba river. The artistic style of their carvings relates to the NGBAKA and NGBANDI, but is less refined and more geometric. Stools inlaid with copper nails are rare and were used as prestige objects.
NGOMBE cane work with dark patina, of elongated, oval form, rattan frame, woven in several crisscross layers of reed and small slats, it was held together with rattan fibres to form a tight wickerwork.
Unique piece in a good condition.
Good condition with signs of wear and tear.
