19th century boxwood netsuke of a puppy chewing a discarded zori (straw sandal). Excellent rendition of its somewhat sad face, fine fur and woven sandal textures. Beautiful warm patina with wonderful sheen to the surface. Signed TADAKAZU on inlaid mother of pearl plaque - the artist is listed in Neil Davey NETSUKE (p. 534, number 2786). Length 1.57 inches.
