Late Meiji (1890s to 1910s) small Japanese wooden okimono for a home altar in a shape of Ebisu - one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune, that of happiness and an incarnation of the Buddha of the Future - with a fan in his hand. Cleverly carved in ittobori (one cut) style typical for the Hida school, painted in bright colors (some losses to paint). Signed RYOSO on the bottom - this netsuke artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 511, number 2073). Height 2.14 inches.
