The pencil signature at the lower margin, together with the damaged Kyoto Hanga-In / Block Prints Co. Ltd. export label on the reverse, supports its identification as an original Japanese woodblock print rather than a later mechanical reproduction. Urushibara was an important Japanese printmaker active between Japan and Britain, and his horse prints remain among his most recognizable decorative subjects.
