Description
This item is a framed Japanese woodblock print of a horse by Yoshijiro Urushibara, also known as Mokuchu Urushibara, dating most likely to the mid-20th century. The image shows one of Urushibara"™s characteristic horse subjects, rendered with economical black line, gray tonal accents, and a red artist seal in the upper right. The pencil signature at the lower margin, together with the damaged Kyoto Hanga-In / Block Prints Co. Ltd. export label on the reverse, supports its identification as an original Japanese woodblock print rather than a later mechanical reproduction. Urushibara was an important Japanese printmaker active between Japan and Britain, and his horse prints remain among his most recognizable decorative subjects.
