Antique Jacobean Revival style Fire Screen, circa late 19th to early 20th century. Dark stained wood frame (likely oak or mahogany) with splayed legs (cheval feet) and a top carry handle. Center panel contains a hand-embroidered or crewelwork linen under glass, depicting a stylized floral motif typical of the Arts and Crafts of the early 20th century revival movements. Featuring whimsical, slightly fantastical flora, curving 'arabesque' vines and a. foundational ground-line. Soft, muted pastel tones-dusty pink, sage green, sky blue, which became particularly popular during the early 20th century.
The bridle joint securing the corner of the wooden frame indicates this was likely a hand-cut or hand-finished piece using traditional chisels rather than modern machinery. Deep darkening around the seam lines show significant wood oxidation, indicative to decades of air and moisture settling in the joints. Overall wonderful condition for a rare, antique piece.
