About the Artist – Adrian Heath (1920–1992):
His Early Life and Education: Born in Burma in 1920, Heath moved to Britain where he eventually studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London both before and after World War II.During WWII, he served in the Royal Air Force and was held as a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III. While imprisoned, he famously mentored fellow POW Terry Frost, encouraging Frost's interest in art.

Artistic Style and Evolution: Heath's work is characterised by a strong focus on geometrical abstraction, spatial relationships, and a deep understanding of balance, rhythm, and form. His art was influenced by European abstractionists such as Jean Helion, Victor Pasmore, and the Constructivist movement, blending structure with a lyrical sense of composition. Though he started with more representational work, by the 1950s Heath was committed to abstraction, working with forms that suggest architecture, the human figure, or movement.

Exhibitions and Recognition: Heath exhibited regularly at the Redfern Gallery in London from the early 1950s onward, which was a hub for contemporary British abstraction. He participated in the 1951 Festival of Britain, marking him out as part of the vanguard of modern British art. In 1953, he published "Abstract Art: Its Origins and Meaning", a critical text exploring the purpose and practice of abstract painting. Legacy and Influence: Heath taught at institutions such as Bath Academy of Art and Chelsea School of Art, where he influenced a generation of younger British abstract artists.
