Steinway & Sons "patent grand" piano, constructed during the "Golden Age" of American piano building. Instruments from this era are highly valued by musicians and restorers alike because they feature Steinway's iconic "Patent Grand Construction" breakthroughs and were crafted using dense, old-growth tone woods that are no longer available in modern manufacturing. When opened, the golden cast iron frame plate reads "Pat. June 13 1876", "Aug 1 1876" and "Pat May 21 1878", "Pat July 2 1878", as well as in back right "Steinway & Sons Overstrung Scale pat. Dec 20 1859 May 25 1872 New York", "Duplex scale pat. May 14 1872", "This frame is also marked in a triangular section with serial number "83737", dating this piano to 1895-1896. Other mechanical patents for parts are stamped inside on frames, including a Steinway & Sons plate insignia. Soundboard marked with Steinway decal. Includes a storage bench with red leather upholstery.
