Description
Ca. 600-1500 AD. Black marble with light green serpentine inclusions. 5 1/2" high x 5 1/4" wide x 7 1/4" long. Taino sculpture of a cacique or important elite carved in three dimensions. He is bent over with hands on his knees, possibly in a reverent appeal. The hero wears a headband connected to elaborate ear spools. The arms and legs are banded; the legs surround the base of the form.
