Description
A full-length antique fur coat constructed from natural bison (buffalo) hide, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The garment features characteristic thick, curly, reddish-brown fur associated with the species. The coat is assembled from an irregular patchwork of hide segments joined with heavy-duty hand-stitched zig-zag and whip-stitching. The interior remains unlined, exposing the reverse side of the tanned hide. Black fabric tape reinforces the interior neck and shoulder seams. The item is accompanied by a handwritten provenance note stating Pre 1875 Bison Hide Jacket (Before Near extinction & Domestic Breeding). The coat is designed as an open-front or wrap-style garment without visible buttons or closures. 4 inch slit needs to be rsewed on left chest area and right pocket area. 3 inch hole in back. Sides of coat and arm are not sewed together.
