Description
This collection consists of multiple postcards housed in two modern multi-ring binders. The first binder is a maroon faux-leather textured hardcover with a gold-tone pinstripe border. The second binder is a dark blue or black textured hardcover with a similar gold-tone border and a geometric line pattern. Both binders contain clear plastic sleeves manufactured by Kleer-Vu Plastics, with some sleeves marked Brownsville. The postcards date primarily from the early 20th century and include a variety of themes. Notable topographical examples include black-and-white photographic views of New York City landmarks, including the Hippodrome (numbered 11781-22, produced by Rotary Photo), the Brooklyn Bridge from N.Y. City, and the Terrace Stairways and Fountain in Central Park (numbered B 2495). The collection also contains several holiday and greeting cards, such as a Washington's Birthday card with a poem and hatchet illustration, and various ornate birthday greetings featuring embossed floral motifs, four-leaf clovers, and illustrations of early 20th-century automobiles. One card titled She was very favorably impressed includes extensive handwritten ink commentary on the front regarding a social scene involving a grass widow and widower.
