Description
A hand-carved and hand-painted mahogany desktop display model of a World War II Lockheed P-38J Lightning fighter aircraft. The model depicts the Putt Putt Maru, the personal aircraft of Colonel Charles MacDonald, Commanding Officer of the 475th Fighter Group. Finished in a silver-toned paint with black anti-glare panels on the nose and engine nacelles, the center fuselage displays twenty-one Japanese kill markings. Identification markings include Putt Putt Maru nose art and the number 100 on the engine cowlings and vertical stabilizers. The model features three-bladed propellers with yellow tips and underwing drop tanks. It is accompanied by a black wooden display base featuring a brass-tone nameplate that reads P38J Lightning.
