Anti-semitic walking stick. Carved antler handle, wood shaft, with metal collar and ferrule. Overall approx. 34 3/4 in. long, handle approx. 3 7/8 x 2 1/4 in.
An unusual walking stick using exaggerated anti-Semitic stereotypes as design elements. The twisted anti-Semitic fantasy is distilled in the curved Jewish nose that is palpably present in the truest sense of the word.
In the Second German Empire, founded in 1871, Jews living within German territory became equal citizens. Especially in the large metropolitan areas, many Jews assimilated into German society. At the same time, however, the first anti-Semitic clubs and associations were formed. The groups produced a plethora of material to "raise the alarm" at the perceived Jewish infiltration of German society.
