Description: American Classical mahogany triple-decker shelf clock by Birge, Mallory & Co. of Bristol, Connecticut, 1837-1843. The architectural case is surmounted by a gilt spread-wing eagle and flanked by turned, ebonized, and gilt columns. The painted Roman-numeral dial has a cutout center revealing the eight-day brass movement. The middle tablet depicts the Merchants Exchange in Philadelphia, while the lower panel displays polychrome floral decoration against a black ground.
Marks: Retains a fragmentary interior factory label identifying an eight-day clock by Birge, Mallory & Co., Bristol, Connecticut. Middle tablet titled Merchants Exchange, Philadelphia.

Mahogany case exhibits scattered scratches, abrasions, veneer cracks, edge wear, finish variation, and minor old repairs. Gilt and ebonized elements have rubbing, discoloration, and localized losses. Painted dial has scratches, crazing, and scattered paint loss. Merchants Exchange tablet has substantial flaking and loss at the right side. Lower floral tablet has scattered wear and possible restoration. Interior label is darkened, fragmentary, and partially illegible. Movement operation and accuracy have not been confirmed.
