Vintage Latin American School titled "Mask" Minimalist Portrait in Acrylic on Paper
Fine example of Latin American School minimalist portrait by California-based artist, Ricardo de Silva (American/Brazil, 20th C). A stylized face is shown as a mask, with one eye clearly visible. The other is obscured in shadow. The mask has a slightly open mouth.
Signed, dated, and titled along the bottom edge "R de Silva 3.3.86 Mask"
Provenance: Acquired with a collection of the artist's work.

DeSilva was born in Brazil and grew up in Los Angeles. He was a gallery owner, first in Santa Barbara in the 1960's and 70's, then in San Jose in the 1980's. He was dedicated to promoting the work of talented upcoming artists, including Kogyo and Hasui Kiyochika, Robert Frame, Jim Stuckenberg, Alice Robertson Carr, Deborah Eve Alastra, Russell Kelly, and Diana Mark.
