Created in Lodz in 1935-38, first published in London in 1940, the Szyk Haggadah have made Arthur Szyk a legend: exquisite miniature paintings in a rich palette, illuminated text and unique calligraphy that combine to tell the Seder narrative.
Arthur Szyk (1894-1951), Polish-born Jewish artist who worked primarily as a book illustrator and political artist , adopted illuminated miniature painting to comment on the rise of Nazis. Review by The Times of London described in 1940: The Haggadah by Szyk is worthy to be placed among the most beautiful of books that the hand of man has produced.
